Everything Bagels

I both love and hate baking, especially bread. It’s usually a few hours of work and you don’t know if it all went well until the very end. I am happy to report these bagels came out great. The recipe was pretty straightforward, which I think helped. Good luck!

Everything Bagels

Makes 8

1 ¼ cup warm water

1 ½ Tbsp. sugar

2 tsps. (one package) active dry yeast

3 ½ cups bread flour

1 ½ tsp. salt

2 Tbsp. sesame seeds

2 tsp. poppy seeds

1 tsp. caraway seeds

1 tsp. course salt

2 Tbsp. minced onion

1 egg

In a bowl combine water sugar. Pour in yeast and allow to sit for 5 minutes. In a larger bowl whisk together flour and salt. Pour flour and salt into water with yeast and stir until a crumbly dough appears. Knead for 6-7 minutes until dough becomes elastic like. Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl and allow to rise for 1 hour. Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and divide into 8 equal pieces. Shape into a ball and form a hole in the center. All to rest for 10 minutes. Preheat oven to 425 degrees. Place bagels in a pot of boiling water for 1 minute per side and place them on a lined baking sheet. Whisk egg with a little water and brush over each bagel. Sprinkle seeds, salt, and onion on top of bagels. Bake for 20 minutes.
